Hardware Suggestions
This FAQ will cover a few recommendations of printers or scanners that clients have already used with Paradigm and Fulfillment Pro.
Label Printers
- It is important to make sure any label printer that are purchased must handle 4-inch-width labels.
- If labels will be exposed to the elements or will need to be scannable for an extended period of time, thermal transfer labels are recommended.
- For light-duty and fast-paced environments, direct thermal labels will be adequate.
- Hardware
- Zebra ZD421 is one of the popular printer options on the medium-low end.
- Citizen CL-E321Z is a great midgrade option to consider as well.
- SATO M84 Pro is a great high-end industrial grade printer.
Barcode Scanners
- Wired or Bluetooth?
- Low-end Bluetooth scanners have a small functional range before losing connection.
- Wired scanners always have a signal, but the product must be brought to the scanner.
- If a scanner is used in conjunction with a tablet, such as to run the shipping list of the Fulfillment Pro, it is advisable to purchase a scanner that is able to read barcodes on the forks without requiring the operator to exit the forklift.
- Hardware
- Cheap, low-end scanners: NABAMOO Wireless Barcode Scanner or the WoneNice USB Laser Barcode Scanner.
- High-end scanners: Zebra DS3678-ER or the Honeywell Granit XP 1991iXR.
Tablets for Fulfillment Pro
- Screen size does matter, as Fulfillment Pro displays large amounts of information at one time and not having a large enough screen could hinder performance.
- A screen size minimum of 12 inches and at least 8GB of RAM is recommended.
- Fulfillment Pro is mainly used with Google Chrome on Windows devices and it is recommended to use the Dell Pro Rugged 12 Inch Windows Tablet PC.
- There are other options such as Surface or Dell tablets, but the Dell Pro Rugged is built with extreme durability.
- We also have Clients have tablets that are not running Windows, such as iPad or Android tablets, and find that they work well at a reasonable price, with good performance and battery life.
- Note that the Fulfillment Pro layout, button location, etc. might not be 100% optimized on these devices.
Production Area Suggestions
- It is recommended to have a workstation, barcode scanner, and a 4×6 label printer at each production area (One for trim, one for panel, etc.)
- The front desk realistically only needs a workstation and an 8.5×11 printer but it is handy to have a barcode scanner as well.
- If using Fulfillment Pro, at least one tablet and a barcode scanner is needed to load trucks. A workstation, barcode scanner, and a 4×6 label printer is highly recommended as well.
- For the workstations, there are required and suggested specs, see this document: Workstation Minimum Requirements
