Machine Groups

This FAQ will go over machine groups in Paradigm ERP.

Machine groups are used to show production for a set of machines in the same production screen, when it is filtered to that machine group. This is useful when there are multiple machines that produce mostly the same profiles—some profiles can be run on any of the machines, while others are limited to just one or the other. A machine group allows for them all to be shown in a single list for the operator to then decide which machine to produce it on.

Manufactured items cannot be set up to be produced at a machine group, only to a machine which can then be included in a machine group. However, once the build is released on an order, the option for Assign to Different Machine can be used to replace the original steps with the machines that are in the group, using the order they are arranged in.

Setting Up Machine Groups

Machine groups can be set up by going to Production > Machine List > Machine Groups. Enter the group name in the top, and then add the machines in the bottom section that will be apart of that group.

Machine Column Highlighting

The background color can be set as well, to highlight the machine column in the production list, as shown below. The background color is used to bring attention to which machine is listed, in a case where almost all of the builds in a group are to a single machine, except for a few lines that are to another machine.

Default Lead Days

The option for Lead Days defines how many business days before an order’s ship date work for any machine in the group should be scheduled. These group-level Lead Days are applied during production scheduling alongside company and individual machine Lead Days, and affect when orders appear for assignment and planning for that group’s machines.

Production Sequence

A group can be designated as a Production Sequence. Within the option to Assign to Different Machine, selecting this group as the assignment replaces the manufacturing steps with the group’s sequence while preserving linked components. If the same machine appears in both the original and sequence steps, machine-specific options are retained.
